Grandview changes lives and inspires possibilities!
As the only children’s treatment centre in the Durham Region, Our Kids with special needs and disabilities receive critical treatment and rehabilitation therapy that help them achieve their personal best. Yet many of our Region’s children are waiting much too long to access the vital services that they need.
Our biggest challenge is space at our 30 year old main location. Designed to serve 400 children, we now serve close to 5,000 per year. To increase valuable treatment space, we’ve added our maximum allotment of portable buildings, and have no other options for expansion.
Leasing space across Durham Region is utilizing operating funds which could be used to treat Our Kids. Demand for Grandview’s services will continue to grow based on recent Durham Region birth and population statistics. In fact, we expect a 31% increase over the next 20 years.
More efficient space would enable us to serve more of Our Kids and significantly reduce wait lists. Many of Our Kids wait –up to18 months and even longer for the services they need. The benefits of early intervention are well documented: wait-lists sabotage potential. The longer Our Kids wait, the more they have to loose. There are currently over 1,400 children waiting for service from us.
Every child deserves to reach their full potential.
Grandview is committed to partnership, innovation and practice transformation to meet the needs of those we serve. We have considered all opportunities to meet the service needs but our current facilities limit us. Plans for a new building have been before government for 5 years while we await approval.
